The idea for AppEx stems from decades long observations and the realization, that the same mistakes and omissions always lead to problems in projects.

The original concept for the AppEx Software was developed by Chris Marolf in the Silicon Valley in the early 2000’s.

The concept was updated and expanded in 2018 and that software solution was completely redesigned by a team of Swiss software developers.

Chris Marolf

The driving force behind the AppEx software is Chris Marolf, a recognized expert for lean construction management, knowledge management and quality management.

Chris Marolf holds a Master’s in Construction Management from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and an MBA from Northwestern University in Chicago. Chris Marolf has experienced the construction industry from all perspectives, working for general contractors, owners, construction managers and trade contractors and was involved in the early phases of BIM and lean management.

Throughout his career Chris Marolf was involved with knowledge management. Early on he realized that in spite of the best intentions of the project team, the same mistakes always occurred in projects. Oversights and omissions, which were frustrating for employees, because they meant additional work, and frustrating for owners, because they increased the project costs.

Learning from mistakes and applying experience in a structured manner became the main focus, which Chris Marolf pursued in his different roles and functions. In addition to his professional activities he regularly lectures on the topic of knowledge management at different universities.
